Refracted Light - Mania
Manic episode, where the character creates an atrium in her living room. The question of 'what does light sound like?' is a consistant element woven throughout the play.
Smokefall - Umbilical Chord
A tragic moment involving a fetus and an umbilical cord. The heartbeat sound transitions to a violin with the same beating-heart rhythm, before it is silenced.
Maybe Tomorrow - Time is Weird
The passing of time has become blurred for this character. The reversed-chime sound is a callback to earlier in the play during 'a moment of recognition.' This sound was chosen because this is the first time she truly acknowledges that "time is weird," continuing the theme that this sound equates a breakthrough in understanding.
Maybe Tomorrow - Self-checkout
A surrielest, offstage scene where the character makes an important purchase. The actor runs on with the plastic bag just as the sound cue ends, creating a seamless transition.
Ellipses Piano
A dark, infinite, transititory tunnel, cut off by a piano note that seems to 'fly by.'
Smokefall - Contractions
From the perpective of inside the womb, a mother is experiencing contractions shortly before birth.
A Picasso - Overwhelming Sparks
An incandescent lightbulb in an interrogation room is driving Picasso mad.
Flies With Honey... - Ending
The ending sequence, timed with lights. A crescendo of sounds from earlier in the play. The breaking glass symbolises either a character's escape from generational trauma or his eventual perpetuation of it.
Bed Trick - Moody Transitions
Compilation of transitions: a creepy circus-esque beginning, a haunting and reflective preparation, rain on a shed roof, a moment of bitter-sweet understanding, and finally a reverse cymbal to end the 'performance.'
Relatively Speaking - Journey
Transition paired with lights: a train station, steam train, and, finally, a country garden.
Relatively Speaking - Opening
Opening Bossa nova music to set tone and place, shower offstage, and ringing phone.
Smokefall - Memory Vinyl
Entering a memory, a vinyl player serves as the method of transition.
Park Benches - Fireworks
With lights: park, fireworks, bow music.
Relatively Speaking - Mystery
A surprise, 4th-wall transition to and from intermission.
